Las Vegas and its casinos have always been a creative source for movie directors looking to add excitement and intrigue into Hollywood movies. One of the most played films with a Las Vegas silver screen is 1960’s ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, which perceive the members of the genuine ‘Rat Pack’ – Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis – decided to rob five of the top casinos in Vegas in just in a night. Things go according to plan, at least until after the heists.
‘Ocean’s Eleven’ was re-created auspiciously in 2001 by Steven Soderburgh, cast George Clooney in the lead role of Danny Ocean and Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Elliott Gould as gang star, amongst others. 2001 make updated the screenplay while still putting over the same glamorous visuals of Vegas as in the first film.
Nicolas visited Las Vegas in 1992 for his movie ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’. This comedy film tells the story of Jack Singer who decides to marry his dating partner Betsy in Vegas. However, when they arrive, Betsy is marked by a high-stakes gambler who wishes he wants to spend a day with her.
He occupies Singer in poker games in an attempt to wrestle her from him. With Cage acting his best as the love-struck bridegroom, James Caan as the ominous gambler, and a number of parachuting Elvis impersonators, ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’ deliver enough laughs.
Matt Damon, one of the best poker players in the 1998 movie ‘Rounders’, who has given up the gameplay in order to concentrate on finishing his college study. When his old friend Worm is released from jail, he persuades Matt Damon to return to the poker game in order to pay off some old debts he arises. Matt Damon hence finds himself playing in a series of poker where the stakes are constantly increasing and the tension is forever building.
Finally, a list of casino films is incomplete without a mention of the 1995 Martin Scorcese film ‘Casino’, which is considered by many to be the ultimate casino movie. This tells the real story of Sam ‘Ace’ Rothstein, a mobster who moves to Las Vegas and becomes the manager of the Tangiers casino. Robert De Niro makes the lead role his own, as Rothstein copes with marriage to a drug addict and friendship with Nicky Santoro, a fellow mobster slowly spiraling into a world of violence.
